ALUMNI GAME: On Sept. 29, Miami baseball will host its Alumni Game at McKie Field at Hayden Park. Alumni that will be back on campus include current Miami assistant coach, Jeremy Ison, Mike Ferris, Brian Canada, Brady Nori, and David Cook. Batting practice begins at 10 a.m. with the game starting at 11 a.m.
Ison spent four seasons (1998-2001) as Miami's starting shortstop, appearing in 241 games and belting 38 home runs, which rank him second on Miami's career list. He appears in the top three on five other career lists at Miami, ranking second in runs batted in (175), total bases (387), hits (237) and runs scored (162), while ranking third in doubles (47). As a junior, he earned second-team All-MAC honors and helped the RedHawks advance to the NCAA Tournament with the program's first Mid-American Conference Tournament title since 1983. Following his years in Oxford, Ison signed as a free agent with the Chicago White Sox and spent the next five years at various levels of professional baseball, including a stint as a player/coach with the Florence Freedom of the independent Frontier League.
A second-round selection of the St. Louis Cardinals in 2004, Mike Ferris ranks fourth on Miami's career list with a .360 career batting average. Ferris' 2004 season was one of the most productive in Miami history as he belted a single-season best 21 home runs and drove in 62 RBI's, which ranks fifth in Miami's single-season list. Ferris also shattered the single-season walks record in 2004 with 60 free passes. This season, Ferris spent time at different levels of the Cardinals farm system playing for the Hi-A Palm Beach Cardinals, Double-A Springfield Cardinals and Triple-A Memphis Redbirds.
A four-year letterwinner from 2002-05, Brian Canada was the team captain for the 2005 RedHawk squad that won the Mid-American Conference championship and scored a NCAA Tournament record 35 runs against Quinnipiac. Canada ranks on six Miami career charts, ranking fourth in hits (230) and doubles (49), fifth in at-bats (706) and runs (148) and eighth and tenth in total bases (351) and runs (134), respectively.
Brady Nori, a three-year letterwinner from 1999-2001, ranks on three Miami single-season charts. Nori ranks first in single-season at-bats (259), second in hits (96) and is tied for eighth in runs (59).
Coming off a 24 home run and 75 RBI season between the Winston-Salem Warthogs and Birmingham Barons of the Chicago White Sox organization, David Cook returns to Oxford for the Alumni Game. Cook, a former ninth-round pick of the White Sox, appears on four career lists at Miami, ranking sixth in runs (146), seventh in RBI's (137), seventh in home runs (28) and 10th in total bases (332).
