OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University Red Alert student group hosted 235 boy scouts from 15 packs in the Fort Hamilton district in the Dan Beard council for a sleep-over at Yager Stadium before last Saturday's football game against the University of Cincinnati.
Events kicked off on Friday night when the youth pitched tents at Yager Stadium and enjoyed a viewing of "The Incredibles" on the stadium video board.
More excitement was in store for the scouts on Saturday morning when they were served breakfast by the RedHawk baseball and synchronized skating teams and coaching staffs and later played in the pre-game Family FunFest next to the stadium where they participated in interactive games and enjoyed live music.
Prior to the kick-off of the "Battle for the Bell" football game, the scouts recited the Pledge of Allegiance on the field in front of the largest RedHawk football crowd since 2003. A ticket to the game was also included for each boy scout.
The inaugural boy scout camp out was successful because of the dedication of the Red Alert student group and community partners- Kroger, John D. Morrell, McDonald's, ROTC, and the Miami physical facilities department.
