DETROIT--Miami University's football team was predicted to finish fourth in the Mid-American Conference East Division in a poll of the MAC News Media Association, the conference office announced Wednesday at its annual Football Media Day in Detroit.
The RedHawks garnered one first-place vote and amassed 163 points, just eight points back of Akron who was tabbed third in the East Division. Ohio was predicted to finish first in the East Division and compiled 15 first-place votes, while Kent State was tabbed to finish second and earned 13 first-place votes.
Rounding out the East Division preseason predictions were Bowling Green, Temple and Buffalo, in fifth, sixth and seventh place, respectively.
Western Michigan earned 15 first-place votes and was selected to finish first in the West Division, edging Central Michigan in the poll by two points with 175. The Chippewas captured 10 first-place votes. WMU also edged CMU as the preseason prediction to win the MAC Championship Game by one vote with 11. Rounding out the rest of the West Division poll was Toledo, Ball State, Northern Illinois and Eastern Michigan.
Miami kicks off its 2007 campaign at Ball State at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30.
