Josh Hula Taken in 30th Round of MLB Draft

OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University redshirt sophomore catcher Josh Hula (Castalia, Ohio/Margaretta) became the third RedHawk taken in the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft. Hula, who transferred to Miami from Ohio State last season, was drafted with the 908th overall pick in the 30th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Completing his first season at Miami, Hula started 43 games, hit .234 and drove in 21 runs for the RedHawks. Hula ranked among Mid-American Conference statistical leaders in triples, and posted seven multiple hit games on the year. Defensively, Hula threw out 41 percent of the base runners that attempting to steal bases. Hula also posted a team-best .994 fielding percentage this season.
Hula becomes the 23rd RedHawk drafted over the last eight years.
Miami junior pitchers John Ely and Connor Graham were drafted in the third and fifth rounds, respectively. Ely was drafted by the Chicago White Sox as the 119th overall pick, while Graham was drafted by the Colorado Rockies as the 162nd overall pick. Ely and Graham were the first two players taken from the MAC in the 2007 MLB Draft.
