OXFORD - Thirteen senior members of Miami University's football team will make their final appearance at Yager Stadium Wednesday night (Nov. 14) when the RedHawks host the University of Akron in a nationally televised Mid-American Conference game at Oxford. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
The cameras of ESPN2 will be on hand as Coach Shane Montgomery's squad aims to take a step closer to a berth in the MAC Championship game on December 1 at Detroit's Ford Field. A RedHawk victory over the Zips on Wednesday and a Bowling Green win over Buffalo on Saturday would clinch a East Division title for Miami.
The group of MU seniors includes five starters, three on offense and two on defense. Linemen Charlie Norden (Dublin) and Steve Meister (Allison Park, PA) plus tailback Austin Sykes (Coraopolis) headline the RedHawks' offensive regulars, while end Craig Mester (Grand Rapids, MI) and cornerback Jerrid Gaines (Springfield) are defensive standouts.
Seven of the eight other Miami seniors also will likely see action. They include center Kyle Lovas (Westerville), quarterback Mike Kokal (Warren), tailback Cory Jones (Florence, MS), receiver Pat LaMonica (Dublin), tight end Nate Mahon (Hamilton), defensive back Tersee Nande, and offensive lineman PETE WALTERS. Miami tri-captain Brandon Murphy will not play against Akron due to a knee injury he suffered in game two at Minnesota.
Tickets are available for the Miami-Akron game by calling (513) 529-HAWK or 1-866-MU-HAWKS.
