Miami Announces 2008 Baseball Schedule

OXFORD, Ohio -- Miami University announces today the release of the schedule for the upcoming 2008 baseball season. The RedHawks, who open with Arizona State, Vanderbilt, and two-time defending National Champion, Oregon State, play a very challenging non-conference schedule.
The RedHawks start their season in Tempe, Ariz., where Miami plays three teams that finished the 2007 season ranked in the Top six in the country, opening against Arizona State at 7 p.m. (PT) on Feb. 22, before taking on Oregon State at 7 p.m. (PT) on Feb. 23. The RedHawks conclude their opening weekend when they hit the diamond for an 11 a.m. (PT) showdown against Vanderbilt on Feb. 24.
"We have a very challenging schedule ahead of us. It is certainly a great opportunity to compete against some of the top programs in the country," said third-year Head Coach Dan Simonds.
Following its opening weekend of play, Miami travels to Lafayette, La., Mar. 1-2, to face Louisiana Lafayette, Southern Mississippi and New Orleans. Mar. 8-9, the RedHawks play a three-game series against Samford in Birmingham, Ala., before returning to McKie Field at Hayden Park for its home opener at 6 p.m. versus Wright State on Mar. 11.
"Our guys know what's ahead of them and if we want to take our program to the next level, these are the types of teams we need to play," Simonds said.
The RedHawks head to Brandeton, Fla. for their annual Spring Break Trip March 13-19, before starting Mid-American Conference action at home versus Toledo March 21-23.
Miami plays home non-conference games against Dayton (Mar. 26), Cincinnati (Apr. 8), Indiana (Apr. 9), Purdue (Apr. 15), Xavier (Apr. 16), Indiana State (Apr. 22) and Eastern Kentucky (Apr. 30), while traveling to Cincinnati (Apr. 1), Indiana (Apr. 2), Xavier (Apr. 23) and Eastern Kentucky (Apr. 29) for road non-conference contests.
In MAC action, the RedHawks play at home versus Western Michigan (Apr. 4-6), Bowling Green (Apr. 25-27), Akron (May 2-4) and Kent State (May 15-17) and hit the road for Eastern Michigan (Mar. 28-30), Central Michigan (Apr. 11-13), Buffalo (Apr. 18-20) and Ohio (May 9-11).
The MAC Tournament is scheduled for May 20-23 at site that is yet to be determined.
