Miami Tennis Drops Season Opener to Indiana State 6-1

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - In its season-opening match, the Miami University women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Indiana State on Saturday afternoon. Junior Kelly Douple posted Miami's lone victory as she was victorious over Fadzai Masiyazi at No. 5 singles.
In singles action, senior Katrina Lomidze opened the season at No. 1 for the RedHawks with a loss to Jennifer Migan (6-1, 6-1). At No. 2 singles, senior Linda Jouriskova lost a three-set battle to Joanne Schickerling (5-7, 6-3, 10-5), before junior Victoria Pulido was felled 6-1, 6-0 by Olivia Masschelein at No. 3 singles.
At No. 4 singles, freshman Kristen McPhillips dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Sarah Galparoli, but that loss was followed by Douple's straight-set victory (6-4, 6-2) over Masiyazi. Freshman Jessica Linden put forth a spirited effort at No. 6 singles, but dropped a three-set heartbreaker to Kelly Hammm (6-4, 0-6, 6-4).
In doubles action, Miami dropped all three matches. The combination of Douple and Lomidze was dropped 8-2 by Migan and Schickerling. Jirouskova and McPhillips were on the wrong side of an 8-6 decision to Masschelein and Hamm, while Pulido and Linden lost 8-5 to Galparoli and Masiyazi.
After a match versus Indiana on Jan. 14, the RedHawks return home next weekend for matched with Dayton and Xavier on Jan. 20-21.
