Miami Football Falls to Bowling Green, 42-14

Nov. 16, 2005

Final Stats

Bowling Green at Miami
November 15, 2005
Yager Stadium - Oxford, OH

Miami Team Notes

- With the loss, Miami dropped to 6-4 overall and 4-3 in the MAC, dropping out of the lead in the MAC East race. Bowling Green improved to 6-4 and 5-2 in the MAC and can clinch the MAC East title outright with a win versus Toledo next week.

- The loss was just Miami's second at home in the past three seasons and 15 games. It ended a season-long four-game winning streak.

- With the loss, Miami can still claim a share of the MAC East title with a win at Ohio next Monday and a Bowling Green loss next week against Toledo. However, the RedHawks cannot win any of the tiebreakers necessary to advance to the MAC Championship game.

- The kickoff was delayed for more than two hours because of inclement weather in the area. It marked the second time in the past two seasons that Miami had to delay the start of a game because of weather. Last season, Miami's season opener versus Indiana State was delayed.

- Miami's 29-point halftime deficit was its largest of the season, and the 29 points it gave up in the first half were the most allowed in a half since it gave up 32 first-half points to Cincinnati in a 2004 loss.

- Miami, which had not been charged with a bad snap in three seasons with junior Dave McClain as the program's longsnapper, botched four punt snaps on the night, resulting in three safeties. The three safeties tied an NCAA record.

- Senior quarterback Josh Betts, who entered the game having not thrown an interception in 87 pass attempts, was picked off a career-high five times on the night.

- Aided by the field position of Miami's costly turnovers and longsnapping mistakes, none of BGSU's scores came on scoring drives of longer than 47 yards.

- Miami was held to negative yards rushing for the first time since a 2001 loss at Kent State. The RedHawks, who finished with -64 yards rushing, lost 115 yards on punting errors.

Miami Player Notes

- On a difficult night, senior quarterback Josh Betts threw for 254 yards to surpass Mike Bath (1998-00) for second on Miami's career passing yardage list with 6,722 yards. He completed multiple touchdown passes for the ninth straight game.

- A 50-yard touchdown pass from Betts to senior wide receiver Martin Nance in the third quarter matched Miami's longest TD connection of the year. The duo also hooked up for a 50-yard strike versus Akron.

- Nance recorded a touchdown reception for the ninth consecutive game and extended his Miami single-season record to 14. He is tied for the national lead in touchdown receptions. He also topped 100 yards receiving for the 14th time in his career, extending his Miami record.

- Seniors Ryan Redd and Derek Rehage both intercepted second-half Omar Jacobs' passes, giving Miami 19 interceptions on the year, which ranks second nationally.

- Junior Ryne Robinson, who hauled in a 34-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter, became the third receiver in program history to top 1,000 yards receiving. He finished with six catches for 107 yards and has 1,034 yards receiving this season.
