MIAMI TEAM NOTES
- With a 51-23 defeat of Akron, its eighth win in the past nine meetings with the Zips, Miami evened its record to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the MAC. It was Miami's 12th home win in the past 13 home games. Akron dropped to 3-3 and 2-2 in the MAC.
- Miami topped 50 points in a game for the first time since a 56-21 win at Central Florida in 2003.
- After allowing 251 yards total offense and 154 yards rushing in the first half, Miami's defense stiffened in the second half, allowing just 125 yards total offense and five yards rushing.
- Miami's defense, which entered the game ranked 14th nationally in turnovers forced, picked off two passes and recovered four fumbles.
MIAMI INDIVIDUAL NOTES
- Coming off his worst outing of the season, Miami quarterback Josh Betts threw multiple touchdown passes for the fifth straight game and completed 23-of-38 passes for 332 yards. It marked the third 300-yard passing game of the season for Betts, and seventh of his career.
- Sophomore running back Brandon Murphy recorded a pair of one-yard touchdown plunges in the first half to give him a rushing touchdown in each of his past five games and six TDs on the season. It was his first multiple-touchdown game of the season.
- Murphy's 67-yard rush in the second quarter, which put Miami in position to take its first lead of the game, was a career long and gave him his fourth straight 100-yard rushing game. He finished with a career-high 184 yards on 26 carries.
- Junior Ryne Robinson keyed Miami's second scoring drive of the day, hauling in a season-long 40-yard reception that set up his eventual 16-yard touchdown catch. He totaled 95 yards receiving in the first half, and finished with eight receptions for 119 yards.
- Senior Martin Nance, aided by a Miami season-long 50-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter, topped 100 yards receiving for the fifth time in six games this season, finishing with seven catches for 123 yards. Nance and Robinson both topped 100 yards receiving in the same game for the third time this season.
- Junior Josh Williams enjoyed his best outing of the season, hauling in three catches for 61 yards and a touchdown.
- Junior corner back Frank Wiwo halted a second-quarter Akron drive by intercepting a Luke Getsy pass in the endzone. The interception was his second in the past three games and third of his career.
- Junior running back Jimmy Murray, who started the season as a defensive back, took his first two carries for 17 yards and two TDs.
