OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University Director of Athletics Brad Bates announced today that Miami University has agreed to a three-game football contract with the University of Minnesota that includes a home game in Oxford in 2009.
The contract begins in 2007 with a meeting in Minneapolis on September 8 and continues in 2009 with the Golden Gophers visiting Yager Stadium on Saturday, September 12. The contract concludes in 2011 as Miami makes a return visit to the Twin Cities. The Gophers will be the third Big Ten team to visit Miami, following Iowa (2001) and Northwestern (2006).
"We are excited to announce such an addition to our schedule," said Bates. "After having the kind of year we did last season and having had Iowa visit Oxford just two years ago, you can see the momentum building behind the job head coach Terry Hoeppner is doing."
Miami has faced Minnesota once before losing to the Gophers 35-3 at the Metrodome in 1988 under then-head coach Tim Rose. The RedHawks are 13-34-2 all-time versus the Big Ten Conference.
"As a coach I am thrilled to have a team like Minnesota on our schedule," said Hoeppner. "It has always been a part of my plan to schedule as many Big Ten teams as possible. We want to thank the University of Minnesota and especially Director of Athletics Joel Maturi and Head Coach Glenn Mason for their work getting this done. We really look forward to having the Golden Gophers in Oxford in 2009."
