RedHawks Explode for 19 Runs versus Fairfield

BRADENTON, Fla. - The Miami RedHawks improved to 9-6 on the year and 3-1 on the Spring Trip with a 19-9 win over Fairfield University at Robert C. Wynn Field at Manatee Community College. Junior first baseman Mike Ferris led the way for Miami with a career night, going 3-for-4 with two home runs, six RBIs and four runs scored.
Ferris got the scoring started in the second inning leading off the inning with his 10th homer of the season to right center. From there the Miami bats exploded with 15 runs over its next four innings. Eight of Miami's nine starters recorded at least one hit in the game led by Sam Sellery, Geoff Orr and Ferris who each collected three hits apiece.
Freshman Jeff Day picked up the win for Miami going 5.2 innings allowing eight runs striking out six. Senior Chad Reineke, junior Matt Raguse and sophomore Matt Long closed out the game giving up just one run the rest of the way.
The RedHawks go in search of their 10th win of the season tomorrow at the Port Charlotte Sports Center as they take on Columbia University at 2:30 p.m.
