Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Army and Yale

BRADENTON, Fla. - The Miami baseball team split a day-night doubleheader today with Army and Yale today, knocking off the Black Knights 8-1 before losing the night cap 8-2 versus the Bulldogs at Manatee Community College in Bradenton, Fla.
The RedHawks dominated first game versus Army jumping out to a 6-1 lead after six innings. The big blows in the game came off the bat of junior catcher John Slone, who went 3-for-4 in the game with a pair of home runs and three RBIs. Sophomore centerfielder Jason Brown pitched in as well with a 2-for-3 performance and two RBIs. Sophomore lefthander Sam Shorts picked up the win throwing seven innings and allowing just one run and striking out four.
In the night cap, Miami leapt out to an early 2-1 lead on Yale thanks to a Brown RBI-single and a Courtney Campbell sacrifice hit. From there however, the Bulldogs rattled off seven unanswered runs and downed the RedHawks 8-2. Sophomore Graham Taylor suffered the loss allowing eight runs, only three earned, and nine hits. Freshman outfielder Ryne Robinson was Miami's hitting star going 2-for-3 with a run scored and two stolen bases.
Junior third baseman Brian Canada extended his hitting streak to 23 game with a two-hit performance against Army and one hit versus Yale.
The RedHawks continue their trip in Florida tomorrow with a single game versus Fairfield at 7 p.m. at the Manatee Community College in Bradenton, Fla.
