TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Senior David Mitchell (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) finished 62nd of 242 runners at the NCAA Men's Cross Country Championship on Monday afternoon at Indiana State University. Mitchell completed the 10K course in 25:36.
Simon Bairu of Wisconsin won the individual title in 24:32 and Colorado won the team title. Mitchell qualified as an individual after the RedHawks narrowly missed out on an at-large berth following a ninth-place finish at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Nov. 13.
Last year, Mitchell, who was the first Miamian across the line in every race this season, finished 30th at the NCAA Championships and earned all-America status. He and his cross country teammates join the rest of the track and field team in January to begin the 2005 season.
