Miami Tennis Gets Struck Down by the Spartans, 6-1

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Miami lost at Michigan State 6-1 on Saturday in East Lansing and dropped back to .500 on the year at 3-3. The loss was just the RedHawks' second in their last five matches. Miami now have eight days off until it plays again at the University of Cincinnati on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 1 p.m.
Miami had the Spartans on the ropes early in doubles competition, but Michigan State battled back to win all three matches (No. 1 - 8-6; No. 2 - 9-7; No. 3 - 9-7). Miami's Megan Zimpfer and Brooke Peyton were eked out in No. 1 doubles by an 8-6 margin. In No. 3 doubles, Ilze Meyer and Maura Trauernicht led for most of the match before dropping a tight 9-7 decision.
In singles competition, Miami's Nancy Wiegand rallied from a one-set-to-none deficit and stole a three-set battle from Michigan State's Shelly Brady. Michigan State captured the other five matches.
