LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Miami lost at Louisville 6-1 on Friday in Louisville, suffering its fourth loss of the season to drop its record to 3-4. The RedHawks are now 0-4 on the road and seek that first road victory later this week when they travel to Marshall for a match on March 1.
The Cardinals took an early lead when they won two out of three doubles matches (No. 1 - 10-8; No. 2 - 6-8; No. 3 - 8-1). The pairing of sophomore Nancy Wiegand (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) and freshman Remy Swain (Louisville, Ky./duPont Manual) won their doubles match, 8-6, to improve their record to 4-3 at No. 2 doubles.
In singles competition, Louisville won five of the six matches but did not exactly dominate every set. Swain battled UL's No. 4 competitor to a 1-1 tie, but lost a tight one in the tiebreaker, 10-8. Freshman Maura Trauernicht (Omaha, Neb./Millard North) fared better in her No. 6 match, coming back from a one-set deficit to win the second set, 7-5, and went on for the victory with a 10-8 decision in the tiebreaker.
