OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University's 2003 Mid-American Conference football champions are to be honored during halftime of Thursday night's men's basketball game between Miami and Wright State University, which tips off at 7 p.m. in Millett Hall.
The RedHawks, who take on the University of Louisville in the Dec. 18 GMAC Bowl in Mobile, Ala., own the nation's longest winning streak at 12 games and have climbed to No. 14 in the Associated Press poll and No. 15 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll. Miami clinched its first MAC Championship since 1986 by going a perfect 8-0 in league play and defeating Bowling Green State University, 49-27, in last week's conference championship game. Head Coach Terry Hoeppner was honored as the MAC Coach of the Year, and junior quarterback Ben Roethlisberger earned the Vern Smith Leadership Award as the MAC's outstanding player.
Hoeppner and Miami Director of Athletics Brad Bates will speak during the brief halftime recognition, and GMAC Bowl representative Murray Cape also will be on hand.
