Miami vs. Bowling Green Game Notes November 4, 2003

Miami Team Notes:

- Tuesday's game marked Miami's first ever nationally televised game at Yager Stadium. In addition, the contest was just the second time in school history that Miami has hosted a night game. (Ball State, 1995)

- The sellout attendance of 28,023 was the fourth largest crowd in Yager Stadium history. The sellout was Miami's second of the season (Cincinnati).

- The RedHawk defense has now forced at least one turnover in each game it has played this season.

- For the first time this season the Miami offense failed to post any first quarter points. Miami's defense posted a first quarter shut out of its own, marking the second time this season that the Falcon offense has been held scoreless in the first period.

- Cal Murray's three-yard scoring plunge with 11:52 remaining in the first half marked the ninth consecutive game that Miami has been the first to score.

- The RedHawks and Falcons combined for five first-half turnovers (Miami-3, BGSU-2).

- The Miami defense held Bowling Green to its lowest point total of the season (10) as well as their lowest yardage of season (344).

- Miami has scored 30 points or more in each of its last 8 games.

- The RedHawks won eight games in a row for the first time since 1977. With Miami's 5-0 MAC start, it is one game away from tying its 6-0 MAC start during the 2001 season.

Miami Individual Notes:

- Senior Phil Smith recovered his first fumble of the season to stop a BGSU drive in the first quarter. The play also marked junior Will Rueff's first forced fumble of the season. Smith later forced a third quarter fumble which was recovered by junior Alphonso Hodge which eventually set up a RedHawk touchdown.

- Sophomore Martin Nance's career-high 10 catches for 169 yards marked numerous milestones for the Miami receiver. He tied junior Michael Larkin as the fastest player to gain 1,000 yards receiving. He also moved into second place on Miami's single-season receiving yardage chart. In addition, Nance moved into a three-way tie for the most 100-yard games in a single season with five. Finally, Nance set a record for the highest two-game receiving yardage total with 350 yards.

- Senior Ryan Sprague continued his stellar special teams play with a fumble recovery early in the second quarter which set up a RedHawk field goal.

- Senior Cal Murray scored for the fourth consecutive game with his three-yard touchdown run.

- Larkin caught a pass for the 32 consecutive game.

- Junior Mike Smith's five-yard rushing touchdown with 13:22 remaining in the third quarter marked the eighth consecutive game in which he has scored, giving him 12 touchdowns for the season.

- Freshman linebacker Tranaine Sills recorded two sacks including a forced fumble which was recovered by sophomore Terna Nande in the fourth quarter.

- Junior Jared Parseghian's missed PAT in the fourth quarter ended a streak of 49 consecutive made attempts.

- Roethlisberger's 19-for-28 with 230 yards gave him his 28th game with over 200 passing yards.
