Team Notes

  • Roethlisberger completed passes to ten Miami receivers breaking the season high of nine he set against Iowa, LSU, and Cincinnati.
  • Miami's 44:07 time of possession on 100 plays is the most time that Miami has had the ball during the 2002 season.
  • The 48 points, 514 total yards, five rushing touchdowns, and 222 rushing yards that Northern Illinois amassed are the most the RedHawk defense have given up all season.
  • Miami is 3-3 when quarterback Ben Roethlisberger passes for more than 300 yards. The RedHawks are 0-2 when Roethlisberger passes for more than 400 yards.
  • For only the third time in 25 games, the RedHawks failed to win after leading or being tied at the end of the third quarter.
  • In the last five games, Miami is 21 for 23 in converting in the redzone.
  • Northern Illinois had the most sacks against Miami on the 2002 season with six.

Individual Notes

  • Andre Henderson set a career high with five catches and 46 yards.
  • Senior wide receiver Jason Branch moved into a tie for seventh place all-time in touchdown receptions with his 12-yard reception in the fourth quarter. Branch also became tenth all-time in Miami's career receiving yardage list with his 126 yards on seven receptions. Branch also became the eighth player in Miami history to pick up 100 career receptions.
  • Matt Brandt set a career high with six catches for 54 yards. The Miami tight end also caught the second touchdown of the game.
  • Wide receiver Martin Nance's 64 yards is a career high. Nance's 44-yard reception in the fourth quarter is the longest reception in his career.
  • Milt Bowen's 18-yard kick off return in the second quarter moved him past Kent State's Shawn Shoemaker for fourth on the Mid-American Conference list for the most career kickoff return yards.
  • Jared Parseghian two first half field goals give him eight on the year, equaling Miami total from last year. The field goals also tie a career high.
  • Freshman defensive back Ryan Redd picked off his first career pass at the start of the second half.
  • Sophomore quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's three-yard touchdown pass to Randy Stegman was his 18th game of his career with a scoring strike in 19 games. Roethlisberger's 223 yards in the first half are the most this season. His four passing touchdowns marked his 12th career multiple touchdown game.
  • Roethlisberger broke an all-time Miami record for passing yards in a game with 524 yards. The RedHawk quarterback broke his own mark of 452 passing yards that he set in a loss to Hawai'I. Roethlisberger set a Yager stadium mark for yards, attempts and completions with his 41 completions on 61 attempts.
  • Roethlisberger passed for more than 300 yards for the sixth time in his career. The Miami quarterback is 3-3 when he passes for 300 yards.
  • Roethlisberger tied a career high with three interceptions. Roethlisberger threw three interceptions in his first career start against the University of Michigan.
  • With Eddie Tillitz 35 yards on 2 returns, Tillitz became the all-time career leader in punt return yardage.
  • Northern Illinois runningback Michael Turner broke the 1,000-yard season mark with his 222 yards on 20 carries and five touchdowns. He becomes the 10th Husky player to rush for 1,000 yards.
  • Wide receiver Michael Larkin has caught a pass in all 17 games that he has played in a Miami uniform.
