Miami Cross Country Runner Brian Godsey Wins Indiana Open

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Miami runners, junior Brian Godsey (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) and sophomore Steve Padgett (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle), led the pack at the Indiana Open finishing one-two on the 7,000-meter course. The RedHawk duo finished 21 seconds ahead of their nearest competitor while four other Miami runners finished in the top-ten.
Godsey won the race with a time of 22:09.10, while Padgett finished 13 seconds back of his teammate with a 22:22.70 clocking. Freshman David Mitchell (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) and sophomore Jerry Claunch (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) rounded out the Open's top-five, finishing fourth and fifth behind the third-place runner, Indiana's Tom Burns. Mitchell was clocked at 22:45.10 and Claunch crossed the finish line with a time of 22:53.40.
Also breaking the 23 minute barrier for the Red and White was junior Ryan Clark (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton [Tenn.]). Clark finished in seventh place with a time of 22:57.60. Junior Tim Hufford (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) finished the race in the ninth slot (23:19.20) to give Miami six runners in the Open's top-ten.
Sophomores Eric Ott (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) and Justin Hussel (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain), and senior Nick Andrews (Kettering, Ohio/Alter) wrapped up the Miami effort by finishing in 12th, 14th, and 23rd, respectively. Ott finished with a time of 23:37.10, Hussel finished with a time of 23:50.00, and Andrews completed the course in 24:16.00.
The men's cross country team will run again when it hosts the Miami Invitational next weekend on Saturday, September 8.
