Podgurski became Miami's first wrestling All-American, finishing sixth at the 1969 NCAA Championships at the 191-pound weight class. He was the first of seven Miami wrestlers to garner All-America distinction. Podgurski was a three-time MAC Champion, capturing the MAC crown at the 177-pound weight class in 1967 and 1968 and at the 190-pound weight class as a senior in 1969. He was just the second wrestler in Miami history to win three MAC titles.
Podgurski, a three-year letterwinner who also earned a freshman letter in 1966, spearheaded Miami to a pair of MAC titles in 1967 and 1968. The 1967 squad posted a 12-0 mark during the regular season.
