Howard, Director Emeritus, Office of Public Information, began his association with Miami in 1947. As Assistant Director of the News Bureau, he handled the duties of Sports Information Director from 1947-56. After assuming the duties of News Bureau Director, he helped Miami athletic directors John Brickels and Richard Shrider jointly recruit SID's.

Following 31 years of publicizing Miami University, he retired in 1978. Remaining in Oxford, he has continued to work with Miami and the athletic department as a historian. He has helped with the tape recording of many members of the Miami Athletic Hall of Fame. A graduate of DePauw '37, he has continued to be active with the Beta Theta Pi international fraternity and served as editor of its magazine form 1955-63. He has been president and board member of both the Kiwanis Club of Oxford and the Oxford Museum Association.

In 1978, he was honored as the Oxford Citizen of the Year.
