Rich Hampton lettered in basketball from 1972-74. He was a first-team all-MAC selection and Miami's team MVP as a junior, when he led Miami in scoring (14.9), rebounding (9.2) and field goal percentage (.519). He was also Miami's Defensive Player of the Year as a junior.
As a senior, he served as a team captain and earned second-team all-league honors after averaging 12.6 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. He tied the school record for single-game field goal percentage when he connected on 10 of 11 shots at Toledo (.909) his senior year. Hampton concluded his career with 893 points and 576 rebounds.
