As a member of Miami's 1977-78 basketball team that captured the Mid-American Conference championship, Randy Ayers helped to upset defending national champion Marquette in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, 84-81, in overtime at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, Indiana.
With a career total of 1,203 points, Ayers ranks 17th on Miami's all-time scoring list. He also ranks 10th with 523 field goals and ninth with 676 rebounds. Selected second-team all-MAC his senior year, he played four years under Darrell Hedric and helped the Redskins compile a record of 76-30.
