Mayers became the first All-American in Miami women's cross country history with her 20th-place finish as a sophomore at the NCAA Championships in 1996. She became just the fourth women's cross country All-American in MAC history and owns the best finish at the event in program history.
Leading up to the championships, Mayers earned All-Region honors with a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Regional, what was then the third-best finish of any MAC women's cross country athlete at an NCAA Regional and the best finish in program history.
Mayers, who had her career cut short due to significant injuries following her sophomore season, was a four-time All-MAC honoree, twice earning the honor in cross country and twice earning the award in track and field.
