Wilson earned three letters as a running back from 1924-26 and two as a catcher in baseball from 1926-27 from Miami Athletic Hall of Fame coach Chester Pittser. He served as team captain in football in 1926 and was selected first-team all-Buckeye Conference.

He helped Miami's baseball teams compile a record of 24-3 and capture two Buckeye Conference and one Ohio Conference title. Five of Wilson's teammates have already been inducted into Miami's Athletic Hall of Fame. They include Weeb Ewbank, Alfred Gansberg, Tom Sharkey, Harry Stryker and Arthur Thatcher.

For 38 years, he served on Miami's English faculty until his retirement in 1972. He achieved the rank of full professor in 1960 and became professor emeritus in 1972. Wilson was presented the honorary Doctor of Letters Degree in 1973. He and his wife, Mary, enjoy traveling in their retirement.
