Fritz Heisler was an All-Ohio guard for the Miami football team, lettering from 1935-37. Despite his slight 155-pound frame, Heisler did not let his undersized build at the guard position hinder his productivity on the gridiron, becoming a fixture in the Miami lineup. He carried his success at Miami into his career. Noted as a technician when it came to developing offensive linemen, Heisler spent 30 years as a coach at the high school, college and professional ranks. Legendary football coach and Miami Hall of Famer Paul Brown hired him on the Ohio State staff in 1941, before military duty interrupted his coaching career from 1942-46.
Brown moved to the professional ranks during that time and brought Heisler on board as the offensive line coach for the Cleveland Browns upon his return from military service, and Heisler spent the next 25 years as a coach for the Browns and an additional five years as a talent scout for the organization.
