Dick Hunter earned three letters and was a two-year starting quarterback from 1952-54 under coach Ara Parseghian. During the Hunter era, Miami compiled a mark of 23-3-1 and captured the MAC titles in 1954. Hunter was a first-team All-MAC selection in 1954 and led the league in both passing and punting. He was also regarded for leading Miami to their first-ever victory over a Big Ten school when he threw a TD pass in MU's 6-0 win over Indiana in 1954.
Following graduation, Hunter returned to his hometown to become an assistant football coach at Barberton High School (1955-58). He then went to Denison University (1958-61), Wake Forest University (1961-63), and then became head coach at Wadsworth High School. Hunter returned to Miami as an assistant (1967-68) under Bo Schembechler and then followed Schembechler to Michigan, where he finished his coaching career as an assistant (1969-72).
