Hall of Fame
After serving five years as an assistant under Bill Mallory, Crum became Miami's head football coach in 1974 and guided Miami to three MAC titles and two Tangerine Bowl championships over Georgia and South Carolina and compiled a record of 34-10-1. Crum's first Miami team went 10-0-1 and was ranked 10th in the final football polls by both AP and UPI. He was named "Coach of the Year" in Ohio in both 1974 and 1975; in the MAC in 1974, and in District 5 in 1974 and 1977.
In 1978, he became the head football coach at the University of North Carolina where he guided the Tar Heels to a record of 60-31-2 and a top 20 finish in four of the eight years. His Carolina teams have won four of five bowl games.
