Dick Clarke was awarded four letters from 1987-90. During that period, he captured seven MAC championships, amassing two titles apiece in the 500-freestyle, 200-butterfly and 400-individual medley and a lone championship in the 1,650-freestyle. He also holds Miami all-time records in the 500-, 1,000- and 1,650-freestyle events, along with four freshman records for the Red and White.
At Miami, Clarke also made his mark nationally. In 1988, he qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in Austin, Texas in the 100- and 200-meter butterfly. A year later, he garnered All-America honors by finishing sixth in the 200-yard butterfly at the NCAA championships in Indianapolis. For his efforts, Clarke was named Miami's 1988-89 Male Athlete of the Year.
