Dave Young, a 1962 graduate of Bowling Green State University, served as Miami's sports information director from 1967-1991, the longest tenure of any Miami SID. A 1992 inductee into the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Hall of Fame, Young developed the all-America campaigns of such Miami notables as Ron Harper and Bill Doran. During his Miami career, Young served as the official scorer at more than 1,800 Miami baseball games.

In 2003, the Miami baseball team and athletic department officially named the pressbox at McKie Field at Hayden Park in Young's name, "The Dave Young Press Box".
