A 1959 graduate of Ohio University, Zody was Miami's head coach in both cross country and track for 23 years. He guided the Redskins to six MAC championships in cross country and two in track. His cross country teams have also captured five all-Ohio titles. He has been selected "Coach of the Year" in the MAC four times in cross country and three times in track. He has also been the outstanding coach in NCAA District 4 three times.
He also served as President of the NCAA Cross Country Coaches Association. Four of his athletes have won NCAA indoor track championships in the pole vault, high jump and triple jump.
