Mason was the 2005 MAC Defensive Player of the Year for Miami men's basketball and earned NABC All-District honors as well as being named Miami Male Co-Athlete of the Year in 2005. A two-time All-MAC pick, earning first-team accolades as a senior, Mason helped spearhead the RedHawks to the 2005 MAC regular-season title and an NIT berth.
He ranks second at Miami in career starts (117) and is the program's top rebounding guard, ranking fifth all-time with 806. He also ranks among program career leaders in minutes played and steals. With 1,250 points, Mason is tied for 19th at Miami. He joined Ron Harper as the only two Miami players to record 1,000 points, 700 rebounds, 300 assists and 150 steals in a career.
Mason played professional basketball in the NBA's D-league for two seasons and spent some time with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He also achieved much success in the European leagues, becoming the first American tabbed MVP in the Adriatic League while playing in Bosnia. He won a pair of national titles while in Bosnia and was a three-time MVP of the Bosnia and Herzegovina League and three-time MVP of the finals.
