He ranks sixth on Miami's all-time scoring list with 177 points and is tied for third for the longest field goal of 52 yards. His career totals include 46 of 53 extra-point conversions, 17 field goals and 50 pass receptions for 862 yards and 13 touchdowns. The game Miami fans will remember most was the 1962 game at Purdue when he kicked a 38-yard field goal and caught an 88-yard pass from Ernie Kellerman and converted the extra point to account for all of Miami's points in the 10-7 victory. He was selected all-Mid-American Conference all three years and co-MVP on the 1962 team under Coach John Pont. Jencks was also voted the MVP for the North in the Senior Bowl and participated in the College All-Star game against the Green Bay Packers in Chicago.

A second-round draft choice of the Chicago Bears, he also played with the Washington Redskins and was associated with the Atlanta Falcons and Los Angeles Rams. Jencks served three years as a part-time assistant football coach at Indiana State University while working on his doctorate in economic geography. He became an assistant professor of geography and urban studies at Saint Anselm's College in Manchester, N.H. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1977.
