Bill Stewart was an outstanding tackle on both offense and defense in football for Miami from 1931-33. He helped lead the Redskins to the Buckeye Conference championship in 1932 and to a co-championship in 1933. He lettered one year under Chester Pittser in 1931 and two under Frank Wilton in 1932 and 1933. He was selected all-Buckeye Conference three years and all-Ohio in 1932. Stewart also earned All-America honorable mention as he served as captain of the football team his senior year. He also participated in track.

Following graduation from Miami Stewart served as an assistant coach in football, basketball and track and head of the intramural program at Springfield High School. He later served as business manager of the Springfield city schools and taught industrial arts. He was inducted into the Miami Hall of Fame in 1981.
