He is the all-time leader at Miami in saves with 2,440, and his 3.40 goals against average (GAA) in 1980-81 is the second best in Miami history.

After playing with Ft. Wayne in the International League for a year, he signed with New Jersey in 1985, which jump-started his NHL career. Chevrier also had stops with Winnipeg, Pittsburgh, Detroit, and a most memorable stay with Chicago. In 1989, Chevrier helped lead the Blackhawks to the brink of the Stanley Cup Finals, when he won nine games in the playoffs and had a sparkling GAA of 2.61.
