OXFORD, Ohio - Maggie McGowan, a 1997 graduate of the University of Oklahoma-Norman, arrives at Miami to take the position of assistant director of marketing and promotions.
McGowan comes to Miami after serving as marketing and promotions associate at Southwest Texas State University for the past year. While at SW Texas State, McGowan was responsible for advertising athletics to local communities and businesses to increase revenue and attendance for all sporting events. She also was in charge of all game operations for football, volleyball, men's basketball and softball during the 2000-01 academic year. McGowan served as the 2001 Southland Conference Softball Tournament coordinator and YES Clinic coordinator in conjunction with her position at SW Texas State.
Prior to her stint at SW Texas State, she was the assistant to the associate athletic director/senior women's administrator at the University of Oklahoma. McGowan was a Sooner during the 1999-00 academic year, when her position responsibilities included general day-to-day operations, activities, tournament planning and execution.
"I am excited to have Maggie as a part of our staff," says Miami's Director of Marketing Brad Wands. "We feel that her experiences in athletics will enhance our program and further support our athletic teams."
McGowan also has served as a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Oklahoma. She taught Introduction to Health and Sports Sciences and First Aid as a graduate assistant.
She graduated from Oklahoma in 2001 with a master's degree in Health and Sports Sciences, and Sport Management.
