OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University athletic teams will be able to compete this weekend, Miami Athletic Director Joel Maturi announced today. The volleyball team, however, will not be traveling to Denver, Colo., this weekend to play at Colorado State and then in the Denver Invitational due to air travel safety concerns. Instead, the volleyball team made a change in plans and will play locally in the Kentucky Invitational, replacing San Jose State, who will not be making the trip. If a national day of mourning is declared, that day's contests could be suspended.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of those who have been injured and are suffering losses after this tragedy, but, as our nation's leaders have proclaimed, we must go on," says Maturi. "Our decision to continue on with contests this week has not been an easy one, but we believe it is the best way to get our lives back in order and for us all to begin the healing process."
