Steve Snyder, executive assistant to the president and secretary to the board of trustees, will be interim director of intercollegiate athletics at Miami University while a national search is conducted for a successor to Joel Maturi.
Miami President Jim Garland, in making the announcement, noted that Snyder has 30 years of experience at Miami, serving since 1997 in his current position as a member of the president's executive committee. He earned an undergraduate degree from Miami in 1973 and an MBA, also from Miami, in 1975.
"Steve served as the liaison with the NCAA during the recent, highly successful accreditation review of Miami's athletic program," said Garland. "He knows the staff and knows the issues. Joel leaves the athletic program in great shape, and I know over the next few months Steve will provide steady, capable leadership while we conduct the search."
Garland said a search committee of alumni, student-athletes, Miami athletic staff and faculty will be appointed soon to help in finding a permanent replacement for Maturi, who leaves Aug. 1 to become athletic director at the University of Minnesota.
Richard Norman, vice president for finance and business services, will chair the search committee.
