OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami Sports Network (MSN) added two important markets to its growing football affiliate list as Director of Athletics Brad Bates welcomes radio outlets serving the Cleveland and Findlay, Ohio, markets to the RedHawks' broadcast family.
The additions of WATJ (1560-AM), Cleveland/Chardon, and WBVI (96.7-FM), Findlay, to the Miami Sports Network's station lineup provide the RedHawks with a strong presence in two northern Ohio recruiting hotbeds, while continuing to target Miami alumni around the state. The WATJ signal services the northwestern Ohio counties of Lake, Geuaga and eastern Cuyahoga, while WBVI will provide MSN access to five north central Ohio counties.
"We are thrilled to be adding these affiliates to our radio network," Director of Athletics Brad Bates explained. "These additions help our department meet two of our goals: expanding our reach to enhance recruiting and to continue to bring Miami football to our family of alumni across the state and the region."
In addition to the flagship station WMOH (1450-AM), Hamilton, Ohio, MSN boasts three other affiliates - 1360 HOMER (1360-AM) in Cincinnati, G-101.3 (101.3-FM) in Richmond, Ind. and WMUB (88.5-FM). With the addition of two new stations, MSN now reaches three of the four major markets in the state.
MSN is anchored by Director of Broadcasting Steve Baker who returned to the microphone three years ago as the "Voice of Miami Athletics," following a four-year absence. In his 17th year as station manager of Oxford's WOXY (97.7 FM), Baker served as Miami's play-by-play announcer for a decade from the mid-1980's to 1997.
Assisting in the booth and providing color commentary is former WKRC-TV sports anchor Tim Bray, who now serves as the director of media relations for the Kentucky Speedway. A 1978 graduate of Bowling Green State University, Bray has been associated with MAC football since 1975, working on the MAC's Television and Radio Games of the Week. In addition to covering the Cincinnati sports scene, Bray has handled radio play-by-play duties for Ohio State, Cincinnati, Xavier and Bowling Green.
Covering the sidelines for MSN is former Miami and Moeller High School quarterback Neil Dougherty. A 1995 graduate, Dougherty posted some of the most prolific passing totals in school history. He is third in all-time passing yardage (4,074) and third in completions (365).
MSN broadcasts are also available on the RedHawks' official web site at www.MURedHawks.com or by accessing TEAMLINE. Official College Sports Network and Real Networks will once again partner to provide the audio streaming for MSN on the internet.
Miami opens its 2003 slate on Saturday, Aug. 30 when it travels to the University of Iowa for the second time in three years. Season tickets to all Miami home games are on sale now and can be purchased by calling the Miami athletic ticket office at (513) 529-HAWK.
