The Miami University Athletics Department hosted a bone marrow drive on Thursday afternoon inside the Athletic Performance Center to help build the registry for the "Be the Match" program.
Every three minutes, one person is diagnosed with a blood cancer. Every 10 minutes, someone dies from a blood cancer. That's more than six people each hour, or 148 people each day.
The Be The Match Registry ®  is operated by the National Marrow Donor Program ®  (NMDP), a nonprofit organization that's dedicated to creating an opportunity for all patients to receive the marrow or umbilical cord blood transplant they need, when they need it. It is the largest and most diverse donor registry in the world.
Overall, Miami added 73 new additions to the registry during its bone marrow drive.
