
Denysiewicz-Slowek, Appelwick Named Miami Athletes of Week

For their performances last week, Catherine Denysiewicz-Slowek and Evan Appelwick are Miami's Athletes of the Week, presented by Skyline Chili for the week of March 24.

Female Winner: Catherine Denysiewicz-Slowek
Miami Tennis' Catherine Denysiewicz-Slowek was 4-0 on the week, winning doubles against Bowling Green Friday and Buffalo Sunday while playing at the No. 2 spot alongside Malu Oliveira. Catherine also played two strong singles matches at the No. 1 spot, beating BGSU's Tia Clemens, 6-4, 6-0 on Friday and Buffalo's Esmee Andresen 6-1, 6-0 on Sunday. Her efforts helped Miami improve to 3-0 in conference play and stretch its win streak to three matches. Denysiewicz-Slowek is a senior Marketing major in the Farmer School of Business from Drummondville, Quebec.

Male Winner: Evan Appelwick
Evan Appelwick led Miami Baseball this week with a .375 batting average over four games, including a series win over the Eastern Michigan Eagles. He hit three home runs, including a grand slam that helped the RedHawks to a 14-11 win and a three-run homer during an 18-7 victory. On top of six hits, Appelwick had three walks, 11 RBIs, and rounded the bases to score seven times. Appelwick, a redshirt junior from Madison, S.D., is studying Finance in the Farmer School of Business.
