
Kunkel, Suder Named Miami Athletes of Week

For their performances last week, Shelby Kunkel and Peter Suder are Miami's Athletes of the Week, presented by Skyline Chili for the week of March 17.

Female Winner: Shelby Kunkel
Shelby Kunkel led the way for Miami Softball last week with a .667 batting average, topping the team in hits (10), RBI (10) and slugging percentage (1.267) as the Red and White went 4-0, including a sweep of Kent State to open MAC play. The RedHawks scored a total of 40 runs, with Kunkel driving in a quarter of those. She went 10-for-15 at the plate for the week, producing multiple hits in each of Miami's four games, and now owns a 12-game hitting streak. Against Kent State Friday night, Kunkel went 3-for-3 with two homers and four RBI. Kunkel, a senior from Eaton Rapids, Mich., is studying Psychology in the College of Arts and Science.

Male Winner: Peter Suder
Peter Suder poured in 18 points a game to lead Miami Men's Basketball in its run to the MAC Tournament title game last week. He shot 47.4% from the field, 50% from behind the arc and 75% at the foul line while averaging 7.7 rebounds and 5.7 assists. Suder narrowly missed the second triple-double in program history Thursday, putting up seven points, 10 rebounds and a career-high 10 assists. He produced 23 points and matched his career high with 11 rebounds Friday. On Saturday, Suder made nine of his first 10 shots en route to a game-high 24 points. Suder was one of two RedHawks (along with Kam Craft) named to the All-Tournament Team. Suder, a junior from Carmel, Ind., is a Sport Management major in the College of Education, Health and Society.
