OXFORD, Ohio – Miami Athletics will be hosting its annual Light the Night walk on Thursday, Oct. 16 beginning at 7 p.m. to help raise awareness for the fight against cancer. The event is free of charge and begins at Yager Stadium.

Miami Football has actively supported Blood Cancer United since 2015. In June of 2015, Liam Kaufman joined the RedHawks' roster. Liam, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in early February of 2015 and began treatment immediately at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital. In April 2018, Liam completed treatment and has been cancer free.
On February 10, 2016, six-year-old Quintin Richardson was diagnosed with Philadelphia Chromosome-Positive Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Natives of Oxford, Ohio, the Richardson's began treatment immediately at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. Miami Football included Quintin in their 2017 Signing Class. Liam, now in high school is also cancer free.
Funds raised through Light the Night allow Blood Canter United to fund treatments for patients who are suffering from all forms of blood cancers. Blood Cancer United has helped fund over 70% of FDA-approved blood cancer treatments since 2016. Help defeat the darkness of cancer. Please donate today to continue to help patients and their families across the country!
"This game is about more than football," said Head Coach Chuck Martin. "It's about our players connecting with something bigger than themselves and using their platform to raise awareness. Everyone has been touched by cancer in some way, and this is our way of standing with the community."
Fans are encouraged to wear multi-colored or awareness-themed attire to the Oct. 25 contest versus Western Michigan and participate in pregame and halftime tributes that will recognize fighters, survivors and the loved ones we've lost.
