All-time series
The Hurricanes lead the all-time series 3-0, but the two programs have not met since 1987.

Last meeting
In the midst of an eight-year span (1985-1992) where they dropped a total of eight games, the Hurricanes defeated Miami University 54-3 in 1987. It was Miami (Fla.)'s 13th consecutive home victory in a streak that eventually reached a national-record 58. The then-No. 3 'Canes, coached by Jimmy Johnson, went on to finish the 1987 campaign with a perfect 12-0 record, claiming the national title by upending No. 1 Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day.

Memorable meeting
In 1946, 'The U' edged Miami University by a score of 20-17, snapping the visitors' six-game winning streak. Miami (Fla.) held on for the narrow victory although the Red and White drove the ball to the home team's nine-yard line late in the game before coming up short on a fourth-down try. Both teams went on to successful years, with head coach Sid Gillman and standout halfback Ara Parseghian leading the Red and White to a 7-3 mark while the 'Canes went 8-2.

Last year's Hurricanes
The 2022 Hurricanes dropped three of their final four games to end the year with a 5-7 record (3-5 in ACC play), ending a string of eight consecutive bowl appearances. Each of Miami's final four losses came by at least 24 points, including a 45-3 home defeat against longtime rival Florida State.

People to know
Tyler Van Dyke, quarterback (jersey # 9)
Van Dyke was the 2021 ACC Rookie of the Year (2,931 passing yards) but missed parts of six games due to injury in 2022, averaging just 203.8 yards per game through the air in nine starts as a sophomore. He connected on a program-record 42 passes for nearly 500 yards against North Carolina last October and boasts a 62.5% career completion percentage.

Henry Parrish Jr., running back (jersey # 21)
In his first season with the 'Canes after transferring from Ole Miss, Parrish Jr. amassed a team-high 616 rushing yards in 2022. The Third-Team All-ACC honoree produced a half dozen touchdowns on the ground and also caught 17 balls for 120 yards and a pair of scores.

Kamren Kinchens, safety (jersey # 5)
Kinchens was a First-Team All-American in 2022, leading the 'Canes with six interceptions and 59 tackles. In a November win at Georgia Tech, he picked off three passes and took one back 99 yards to the house.

Numbers to know
2: The Hurricanes will debut two new coordinators against the RedHawks in September. Both offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson and defensive coordinator Lance Guidry will be calling their first games with Miami (Fla).

20: This will be Miami's 20th season in the Atlantic Coast Conference. After winning the Big East nine times in a 13-year span from 1991 to 2003 before switching leagues, the 'Canes are still chasing their first ACC crown.

24: Offensive lineman Javion Cohen started 24 games over the past two seasons for Alabama before announcing in December that he would transfer to the U. Cohen, a second-team All-SEC selection, will anchor a rebuilt front for the Hurricanes, with several five-star freshmen potentially in the mix to start (along with UCF transfer Matt Lee).
