All-time series
Miami leads the all-time series 16-9 over Buffalo, including capturing the first 10 matchups between the teams. This will be the 25th consecutive year the programs have met. The RedHawks are 10-3 vs. the Bulls in Oxford.
Last meeting
Buffalo scored a touchdown with 31 seconds remaining to edge Miami 24-20 last October in the RedHawks' conference opener. The Red and White controlled the stat sheet, but the Bulls rallied late to earn the win. Miami's Aveon Smith had a career day, rushing for 142 yards and two scores to go along with 119 passing yards.
Â
Memorable meeting
Miami forced six first-half turnovers and raced out to a 47-0 halftime lead in a lopsided November 2005 win over Buffalo. Martin Nance caught two first-quarter touchdown passes for the RedHawks, while Robbie Wilson scored on a 37-yard interception return in the second period and Darrell Hunter added a 27-yard fumble return touchdown with a minute left before intermission. The RedHawks would go on to win by a margin of 54-13, clinching the program's 12th consecutive winning season.
Last year's Bulls
The 2022 Buffalo football team won five straight games after an 0-3 start and ended the regular season at 6-6 (5-3 in league play). The Bulls finished .500 or better in the MAC for the fifth time in six years and earned a trip to the Camellia Bowl, where they held off Georgia Southern 23-21.
Â
People to know
Mike Washington, running back (jersey # 8)
Washington led the Bulls in rushing yards (625) and rushing touchdowns (seven) a season ago and should once again team with Ron Cook, Jr. (600 rush yards in 2022) to provide the Bulls' offense a solid 1-2 punch in the backfield.
Â
Shaun Dolac, linebacker (jersey # 52)
Dolac led the nation in solo tackles (97) last year, setting the school record in that category. His 147 stops ranked first in the conference and second in the country. The First Team All-MAC performer also led the Bulls' defense with 13.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks.
Â
Alex McNulty, kicker (jersey # 16)
McNulty set a new program record with 24 made field goals last year, taking home MAC Special Teams Player of the Year honors. He is the first kicker in school history to convert 100 consecutive extra points. McNulty, who previously competed with the Bulls' track and field team as a javelin thrower, returns for his sixth season with the football program this fall and was recently named Preseason Second-Team All-America by Phil Steele.
