
RedHawks to Face North Texas in Frisco Football Classic

The Miami University football team has announced that it has accepted an invitation to play in the Frisco Football Classic versus North Texas on Thursday, Dec. 23 at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas. Opening kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. and will be carried live on ESPN.

The Frisco Football Classic is Miami's 13th bowl appearance in school history, most recently competing in the 2020 LendingTree Bowl. Overall, the RedHawks are 7-5 in bowl games.

The RedHawks come into the contest with the Mean Green with a 6-6 overall and 5-3 Mid-American Conference record. In its last 42 conference games, Miami is 30-12.
Offensively, Miami is led by quarterback Brett Gabbert, who has thrown for 2,418 yards and 24 touchdowns this season with just six interceptions. The third-team All-MAC performer has thrown for over 350 yards in three of his last four contests. Many of those yards have gone to sixth-year wide receiver Jack Sorenson. Sorenson, a first-team All-MAC honoree, is sixth in the nation with 1,290 receiving yards, while his 10 touchdowns rank 12th.

Miami features the top defense in the MAC, ranking first in scoring allowed (22.0), rush defense (120.5), sacks (30) and fourth down defense (66.7%). Defensive lineman Kameron Butler was fourth in the MAC in sacks (8) and tackles for loss (14.0) while linebacker Ivan Pace Jr. was third in the conference with 116 tackles and sixth with 13.0 tackles for loss. Both Butler and Pace were named first-team All-MAC.
North Texas, a member of Conference USA, is 6-6 on the year. The Mean Green have won each of their last five contests, including a 45-23 victory over No. 15, and previously undefeated, Texas San Antonio on Nov. 27. North Texas features a strong rushing attack that averages nearly 250 yards per game on the ground, while quarterback Austin Aune has thrown for 1,763 yards and nine touchdowns this season.
