Women's Tennis Closes Out FAU Owl Cup

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Miami University women's tennis team competed in the final day of the Owl Cup on the campus of Florida Atlantic University Sunday, rounding out their rotations with doubles matches against Stony Brook and singles pairings against the host Owls. The RedHawks posted their strongest results of the week, taking all three doubles matches and winning five in singles.
All three doubles teams put on dominant performances against the Seawolves, with the senior duo of Nelli Ponomareva and Anastasiia Vasiukhina and the freshmen tandem of Priyana Kalita and Milana Lysova each taking their matches 6-1. Lena Babunski and Emily Struble were the other RedHawk winners, knocking off SBU's Rodriguez/Foo by a score of 6-3.
The 'Hawks then turned their attention to singles matches against FAU, where several players dominated their matches. Vasiukhina posted a quick 6-3, 6-3 win, and fellow senior Ponomareva also won her match. As they had done all weekend, Miami's freshmen continued to impress: Babunski rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Florida Atlantic's Ruiz while Kalita defeated Naiya Oden in similar fashion, 6-1, 6-0. Melati Devi was Miami's fifth winner, edging out the Owls' Jennifer Leib 6-4, 2-6, 10-8.
With their performances Sunday, Kalita and Babunski completed perfect weekends, with each winning all three of their singles matches. Babunski won all three of her doubles matches as well, as did Struble and Lysova.
Miami finished the weekend with an 8-2 record in doubles matches and a 14-12 record in singles. Sunday's full results can be found below.
The Red and White will kick off dual play Wednesday when they hit the road for a match against the Kentucky Wildcats.
