Jan. 13, 2017 OXFORD, Ohio - On Thursday afternoon, former Miami University wide receiver Sean McVay was named head coach of the Los Angeles Rams.
The 30-year-old McVay, who graduated from Miami in 2008 and became an offensive assistant in Tampa Bay that same year, is the youngest head coach in modern NFL history. He has been coaching with Washington since 2010, serving as the team's offensive coordinator the past three seasons, its tight ends coach from 2011-13 and as an offensive assistant in 2010. Under McVay's tutelage in Washington, quarterback Kirk Cousins set franchise single-season records for passing yards and completions in a season.
McVay lettered three times (2005-07) with the Red and White and was part of the team's Mid-American Conference East Division Championship squad in 2007. He joins Baltimore's John Harbaugh as another former Miami player now serving as a head coach in the NFL.
McVay possesses family ties to the NFL as his grandfather John, also a former Miami player, served as general manager for the San Francisco 49ers, helping create five Super Bowl squads and eventually being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013.
