RedHawks Continue Play at Louisville Classic

Miami took on Memphis in singles matches with a few players tallying wins. Ponomareva defeated Grabielle Paul in a battle of a match. Ponomareva started off strong, winning the first set (6-2). She dropped the next set, (6-7) after a close three-point tiebreaker. The junior RedHawk returned strong to take the third set (6-3). Struble also played a back and forth match with Katherine Cao where won the first set (6-2), but fell in the second set (4-6). Struble rallied to take the third set (6-2). Shteyn beat out Marta Morga in straight sets (6-3, 6-1).
Rodriguez also tallied a win for the RedHawks after she defeated Anna Collins from Louisville in straight sets (7-5, 6-3). Shapovalova dropped her match to Anki Wind (7-5, 6-2). Badilieanu lost against Hanna Sohn (6-2, 7-5). Vasiukhina also fell in her match against Memphis' Josephine Cao (6-3, 6-3).
The RedHawks battled it out with Louisville and Memphis in doubles action. Juniors Nelli Ponomareva and Anastasiia Vasiukhina fell in their match against Louisville's Mariana Humberg and Abbie Pahz (6-4) and fell in their match against Memphis' Anki Wind and Katherine Cao (6-4). Junior Andreea Badilieanu and sophomore Anzhelika Shapovalova dropped their match to UL's Olivia Boesing and Sena Suswam and lost their match against Memphis' Hanna Sohn and Josephine Cao (6-2). The duo of junior Hannah Shteyn and sophomore Emily Struble dropped both of their matches, falling to Louisville's Ariana Rodriguez and Jessie Paul (6-3). The pair also fell in their match against UL's Gabrielle Paul and Marta Morga in a close match, but ultimately fell in a tiebreaker (7-6).
Miami returns for the final day of the Louisville Classic tomorrow with doubles in the morning and singles to follow in the afternoon.
