Tennis Continues Action at Pitt Spring Invitational

PITTSBURGH, Pa. ââ'¬" Miami University's women's tennis team continued competition at the Nishan Vartabedian Spring Invitational with a match against the hosting Pitt Panthers Saturday afternoon at the University of Pittsburgh's Alpha Tennis Center.
The RedHawks only came away with one singles victory on the day, but were competitive in other matches.
In doubles, the pair of sophomore Hannah Shteyn and freshman Anzhelika Shapovalova lost in a tiebreaker for the second consecutive day, falling 7-6 to Audrey Ann Blakely and Gabriela Rezende.
Freshman Emily Struble picked up her 10th singles win of the exhibition season with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 victory over Natsumi Okamato. In another competitive outing, junior Andreea Badileanu grabbed the opening set, but eventually fell to Lolade Ogungbesan in a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 decision. The other four RedHawks fell in straight-sets results.
Miami will conclude its play at the Nishan Vartabedian Spring Invitational with a matchup against Marshall University on Sunday, Jan. 17 at 8 a.m. The RedHawks will face the Thundering Herd in the regular season on Sunday, Feb. 14 at 10 a.m. in Hamilton, Ohio.
